Dear residents and interested parties,
Several events are planned in the city centre next weekend. As a result, streets are closed, and the City Centre will be inaccessible at certain times in some places.
1. Ridderronde
The Ridderronde van Maastricht is Maastricht’s pro criterium, since 1985. From 2022, it will no longer take place after the Tour de France, but on the first Friday after the Giro d’Italia. On the streets around Markt, Vrijthof and Onze Lieve Vrouweplein, some of the Giro participants show off their skills in the lively Maastricht city centre. This year’s Ridderonde will be held on Friday 31 May 2024.
Start and finish are on Kesselskade, near the Rebelle. The course then runs via Hoenderstraat, Markt-Noord, Grote Gracht, Helmstraat, Vrijthof, Bredestraat, Hondstraat, Cortenstraat, Onze Lieve Vrouweplein, Graanmarkt and the Bat. The course will be closed to traffic from 5pm until around 10.45pm. City buses will be diverted.
More information can be found here.
2. Giants’ festival
On the weekend of 1 and 2 June, the 11th edition of the Maastricht International Giant Festival will take place in the city centre. The Giant Festival bears the theme “‘t Oug vaan Gieg oonbegrens geriech”. It promises to be a true spectacle for young and old alike!
On Saturday afternoon, the Children’s Giant Procession passes through the streets and on Sunday, the Grand Historical Giant Procession takes place. Both processions are free of charge.
Note that shops in the City Centre will remain closed all day Sunday.
More information can be found here.
3. Adult fund Sport & Culture
The Adult Fund ensures that residents aged 18 and over, who live around the subsistence level, can join a sports club or cultural institution. In this way, the Maastricht council makes sports or another creative activity such as dancing, painting, drama or music lessons accessible to everyone.
